Heading into 2024, it seemed as if the Pittsburgh Steelers would walk away with either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson as the long-term solution to their QB woes.
However, the 2025 offseason presents the Black and Gold with an eerily similar situation to Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement at the conclusion of the 2022 regular season.
The team was desperate to find their future signal-caller and ultimately selected Kenny Pickett with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers would be wise to avoid drafting a quarterback out of urgency and desperation in the 2025 NFL Draft—such as selecting Jaxson Dart in the first round.
Although the team is eager to solidify its future at quarterback, Fields should be re-signed and given his shot to start rather than making a rash decision in the draft, as the Steelers did nearly three years ago.
No one would bat an eye if the Pittsburgh Steelers nailed their first-round pick and then selected Dart or another QB in the second round. However, the team needs the 2025 NFL Draft to go perfectly in order to stay competitive in 2025 and beyond.
