Blues are looking to hijack another transfer from Huddersfield Town, this time in the form of Bristol Rovers attacking midfielder Antony Evans.
We understand Blues have swooped in to offer the 25-year-old a more lucrative deal after Huddersfield had a bid rejected for him last week.
It seems like both clubs are having a transfer duel as Blues beat The Terriers to the signing of striker Alfie May, who was announced earlier today.
Up to the end of last season, Evans had made 142 appearances for Bristol Rovers, scoring 26 times with 26 assists.
Evans has not doubt been one of the EFL’s standout performers across his time at the club.
Bristol Rovers reportedly turned down an offer for the former Everton man earlier this year from a fellow League One rival, with Portsmouth also interested in the Gas’ 2023/24 Player of the Season.
Rovers have made several offers to Antony Evans to extend his stay at the Mem, with team Manager Matt Taylor telling BBC’s Having a Gas last season that: “Throughout the course of the season, there were discussions, and offers have gone out… We want him here.”
Evans has so far declined those offers and now, into the final 10 months of his contract, the Rovers’ leadership may not be able to haggle for too long.
It’s a bit of an unenviable position for Rovers, who will know that if they keep rejecting offers for their star player, they may lose the opportunity to make a decent profit from his sale.
Evans is valued to be in the range of £650,000 – £750,000 plus add-ons from potential future achievements. It’s not clear what Rovers’ asking price is at this current stage but it’s no doubt Blues will be able to meet that demand, along with unrivalled wages.
