Sheffield Wednesday are deep into their first week of pre-season training with their new-look squad.
The Owls have made six signings since they avoided relegation, as well as tying down four players to new contracts.
Sheffield Wednesday are eager to wrap up as many additions as they can before they head to St George’s Park for a training camp, with James Beadle also believed to be on the verge of re-signing on loan.
Max Lowe will have had a rather unusual start to life after the off-season, having made the short trip up the road from Bramall Lane.
While the full-back was released by Sheffield United, he is one of few players to make the jump between the two rivals after spending four years with the Blades.
Max Lowe ‘had to be ‘selfish’ in controversial decision
Despite the controversial switch and the abuse likely to have come with it, Lowe has admitted that it was a ‘really easy’ decision to move to Hillsborough.
Speaking to the club, Lowe said: “I’m delighted to be here and meet all the boys and staff,” he told the club. “Everyone has been really nice with me, so I’m buzzing to get going… I’ve settled in really easily to be honest, I know a lot of the boys from playing against them and even with some of them at previous clubs. So it’s been easy for me, and I think I can say the same for the other new lads as well…
“Once I was aware that there was interest I wanted to speak to the manager straight away, and once I’d had a deep conversation with him it made my decision really easy. I had to be selfish and make the best decision for myself.
“He’s got a style of play, he believes in the squad that he’s got at the moment, and he wants to build on that. Looking at it from afar last season I saw how well the boys did in their position, and it’s something that I wanted to be part of.”
Danny Rohl has so much power after one season at Sheffield Wednesday
While many will question why Lowe joined Wednesday from United, it is very understandable as to why he wanted to work under Danny Rohl.
He is the second signing to admit he was intrigued by the German coach, with Jamal Lowe also revealing he rejected a host of clubs because of Rohl.
It shows how highly the 35-year-old is thought of in English football now, despite only going into his second season as a manager.
Rohl has so much potential and will undoubtedly have huge interest in him next summer, but if they can keep him for even longer than that then Wednesday will surely be able to attract some big players.
