Scunthorpe United have confirmed a duo of additions, with one to the coaching staff and one to the first-team squad.
The Iron are readying for another shot at promotion into the National League, after missing out in the play-offs last season.
Maison Campbell Makes Permanent Move:
The 20-year-old goalkeeper has made his return to the Attis Arena, after a loan-spell last season. He first joined Scunthorpe United in December last year, coming in as a understudy for Ross Fitzsimons during the typically busy festive period.
The following month, Campbell’s loan stint was extended to the end of the season. However, a 24-hour recall option was employed in April, when parent club York City suffered an injury to shot-stopper Rory Watson.
The former Mansfield Town youngster made two appearances for Scunthorpe last term, helping the Iron into the Lincolnshire FA County Cup final.
John Schofield Returns to Scunthorpe United:
Prior to Campbell’s signing, Scunthorpe United announced that John Schofield had returned to the club a decade after his first stint. He assisted current-Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox during his time at the helm of the Iron.
Wilcox and Schofield were teammates at Doncaster Rovers during their playing days.
Over the course of his coaching career, the 59-year-old has spent time at a number of EFL clubs: Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United, Gillingham, Lincoln City and the aforementioned Doncaster.
More recently, he coached at SkyBet League One‘s Peterborough United, before being appointed as the manager of Northern Ireland under-21s. His last assistant manager role before returning to Scunthorpe United was at Port Vale.
Two Smart Additions – Opinion:
The two additions are not ones that will reach the headlines, but they are the work that needs doing when building a promotion-chasing team (or any team for that matter).
Scunthorpe United have brought in a young understudy goalkeeper, and an experienced assistant manager who knows the club from previous spells. They are both important cogs in the machine, especially the latter.
