Elliotte Friedman, an NHL insider, made waves in the hockey community today when he dropped a bombshell on his 32 Thoughts podcast.
Friedman said this on 32 Thoughts today:
“Houston, Atlanta, a new TV deal, and then after that, if he succeeds, the Commissioner will partly retire. He will either become Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors or a Senior Advisor to the NHL, or whatever title he desires, and Bill Daly will assume the role of Commissioner.”
I believe that this is Bettman’s strategy: expansion, a new TV deal, and then goodbye. I think Bettman sees it that way.
Friedman, however, made it clear that this wouldn’t happen quickly. He anticipates that Bettman will stay in his position for about two more years, and if he manages to do all he has set out to do, he will retire at the age of 77.
