The new arrival impressed in Sheffield Wednesday’s recent pre-season bout.
Sheffield Wednesday faced off for their final pre-season clash of the summer ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign with a friendly against Leganes.
The game was held as a testimonial at Hillsborough Stadium for long standing Sheffield Wednesday fan-favourite Liam Palmer, who committed his future to the Owls this summer to see him through the 2024/25 season.
Despite the celebration of Palmer and his tenure of over a decade at the club, there was little to celebrate in terms of goals at Hillsborough, with the game finishing 0-0 between the Owls and their La Liga opposition.
However, a draw against Leganes is something that Danny Rohl will take confidence from, and a high-point to end pre-season ahead of their opening Championship fixture at home to Plymouth Argyle.
There was a real sense of urgency amongst the Sheffield Wednesday players, however one new signing stuck out as one to watch this season after a solid performance.
Joe Crann impressed by ‘fantastic’ Sheffield Wednesday signing Jamal Lowe
Sheffield Wednesday new signing Jamal Lowe, who arrived for free following his release from Premier League side Bournemouth, was unable to get on the scoresheet for the Owls against Leganes, however he was still praised for his efforts.
Writing on X, Joe Crann said: “Already really like Jamal Lowe. Think he could prove to be a fantastic signing for #SWFC.”

Lowe started in an attacking force consisting of Josh Windass, who Rohl has already previously commented on how they have linked up incredibly well during pre-season, as well as Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba providing the width.
Sheffield Wednesday’s attack have put Danny Rohl’s words into action
Rohl has clearly stated his desire for his Sheffield Wednesday side to move with more of a sense of urgency on the ball and look to play it quicker in transition.
This is something that was clearly evident against Leganes, despite there being no goals to show for it on this occasion.
The German boss has already managed to get the best out of Lowe from this style of play, and that urgency has also transformed Sheffield Wednesday off the ball, with there being a lot more emphasis on pressing from the front, which put Leganes’ defence under pressure on occasions.
Very was always going to be high expectations of the several new signings that Sheffield Wednesday have made, particularly of Lowe, who has goal scoring prowess and proven Championship ability, however he has managed to gel into the side with ease, something that will lower the urgency of Rohl’s mission to bring in another striker.
