Bolton Wanderers are set to part company with goalkeeper Joel Coleman, as he has reportedly been made available for transfer by the Trotters.
Ian Evatt’s side suffered a frustrating end to the season, falling to defeat at Wembley Stadium in the play-off final.
Now with four points on the board in the new campaign and aspirations for automatic promotion this season, they have made some strong additions to their squad to fit these aspirations.
These improvements mean that one of their options between the sticks could be set to depart the club, with the player in question set to be transfer-listed.
Coleman To Leave The Wanderers?
According to The Bolton News, Bolton are set to part company with rotational goalkeeper Joel Coleman, as reports state that the player has been made available for transfer despite only joining in 2023.
The former Ipswich and Huddersfield man joined the Trotters last June and fulfilled the role of backup goalkeeper to Nathan Baxter last season, making 19 appearances.
However, with the arrival of Luke Southwood to Bolton this summer, Coleman now finds himself as the third-choice goalkeeper at the club.
At 28 years old, Coleman likely has a massive decision to make for the future of his career.
What Should Coleman Do?
With the club practically admitting to Coleman that without any major injury issues, he will not be getting any game time this season, it is likely time for the Englishman to move on.
He is now in the peak years of his career and would relish the chance to be a starter.
This may mean he will have to drop either to a team lower down in League One or move to League Two to ensure he will be a starter.
However, it would be the smart move for his career if he does not want to be sidelined for the whole season, and the club adding him to the transfer list also shows they recognise this desire and will not prevent any potential moves for Coleman
