LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southeastern Conference men’s basketball coaches have voted Kentucky’s Jaxson Robinson to the preseason third team, the league office has announced. The recognition comes after Robinson was selected to the All-SEC Third Team by the media earlier this month, further cementing the guard as one of the players to watch in the highest-rated conference this year.
A grad transfer from Brigham Young University, Robinson comes to Kentucky as the 2023-24 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year after leading Mark Pope’s Cougars in scoring at 14.2 points per game. He was the first bench player in BYU program history to pace the team in scoring and did so while shooting 42.6% from the field and 35.4% from beyond the 3-point arc, all career-bests.
Robinson reached double-digit scoring in 25 of 33 games played last season, connecting on 81 3-pointers and burying at least one triple in each of the team’s final 21 games. He had a standout performance in BYU’s NCAA Tournament games against Duquesne, tallying 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead all scorers.
The native of Ada, Oklahoma has also received national attention this preseason, appearing on watch lists for both the Naismith Trophy Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year and the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.
During Kentucky’s two exhibition contests, Robinson averaged a team-high 21.5 points per game, including a 24-point performance against Minnesota State.
The 6-foot-6 wing is joined on the third team by Auburn’s Chad Baker-Mazara, South Carolina’s Collin Murray-Boyles and Tre Johnson and Tramon Mark of Texas. Alabama’s Mark Sears was chosen as the preseason player of the year.
Kentucky is set to open the regular season against Wright State on Nov. 4 on ESPNU. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center.
