After spending several weeks with the Oregon Ducks preparing for the Rose Bowl against the Ohio State Buckeyes, 5-star quarterback signee Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele decided he would prefer to play elsewhere as a true freshman.
On Friday, Sagapolutele revealed he would be entering the transfer portal in search of a team where he could play immediately. A few days later, he announced his destination, which wasn’t a surprise.
The 5-star quarterback will be transferring to the California Golden Bears, a school he had committed to for a long time before switching to Oregon on signing day.
At Berkeley, Sagapolutele will compete with Chandler Rodgers and CJ Morris for the starting quarterback position as a true freshman.
Though losing a 5-star recruit is never ideal, the Ducks are well-positioned at quarterback, with Dante Moore set to take over as the starter in 2025, following Dillon Gabriel.
