In today’s edition of Auburn Tigers News, Bruce Pearl updates the media on Johni Broome’s shoulder injury and a defensive lineman enters the transfer portal
The Auburn basketball program has a challenging game coming up this weekend against Purdue, and their best player may or may not be ready to go.
In Tuesday night’s game against Georgia State, Johni Broome went up for a rebound just under three minutes into the game and came down clutching his shoulder. He ran off the court and later returned in a hoodie with ice taped to his shoulder.
Head coach Bruce Pearl informed the media that there is no long-term damage for Broome and that he will not require surgery. As for whether or not Broome will play this Saturday, it’s not looking likely.
“He won’t practice today, but he will travel up there,” Pearl said, per Auburn Undercover. “I couldn’t even tell you status … we just don’t know. But the good news is that it’s not a long-term problem.”
Still, it’s a huge relief that the injury won’t hold Broome out for a long period of time. Widely considered to be the front-runner for Player of the Year, Broome is currently ranked #1 in overall player efficiency.
Defensive lineman enters the transfer portal
The Auburn football team has brought in over 10 transfers from the portal so far, but have also lost a few in the process. Earlier this week, another player decided to enter: defensive lineman Darren Reed Jr.
Reed signed with the Tigers as a 4-star in their 2023 recruiting class after flipping from LSU but has been unable to crack into the starting rotation after two years on the Plains. He has not recorded any stats in his Auburn career but played for the Tigers in the Music City Bowl.
