COLLEGE STATION – Kaeden Kent’s grand slam capped an eight-run ninth inning as Texas A&M defeated the University of South Carolina baseball team, 15-12, Saturday afternoon (April 12) at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Texas A&M scored an unearned run in the first and added one in the second on a wild pitch. Dalton Mashore cut the Aggie lead in half with his second home run of the season in the third.
Carolina put up a seven-spot in the fifth. Evan Stone led off the inning with his third home run of the season. The Gamecocks loaded the bases on a pair of hit by pitches and a Mashore double. Henry Kaczmar gave Carolina the 4-2 lead with a double to right. Ethan Petry brought in two more runs on a single to left. Stone then came back with a two-run single to left, bringing in Petry and Jase Woita, making it 8-2 Gamecocks.
Carolina added four more runs in the sixth as Petry and Beau Hollins drove in a run and Jordan Carrion picked up two RBI on a single to right. Texas A&M put up a run in the sixth and two in both the seventh and eighth innings and eight in the ninth on a pair of grand slams from Hayden Schott and Kent.
Stone, Mashore and Petry had two hits apiece for Carolina, while Stone and Petry drove in three runs apiece. The loss went to Caleb Jones, who allowed four runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
