Pete Nakos from On3 was the first to report that the talented player is set to join the Aggies, following news from January 17 that he planned to enter the transfer portal.
After transferring from Alabama last offseason, he spent one year with the Longhorns. During the 2024 season, he played in nine games, recording five receptions for 33 yards but no touchdowns. His best performance came in Texas’ victory over Vanderbilt in late October, where he caught two passes for 22 yards.
A highly-rated recruit from Florida, Niblack was expected to play a key role in Texas’s offense for 2024. However, the strong performances of senior tight ends Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis limited his playing time and opportunities.
Prior to transferring to Texas, Niblack contributed significantly to Alabama’s offense in 2023, playing in 24 games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He totaled 21 receptions for 342 yards and five touchdowns, with his best year being 2023 when he helped Alabama win the SEC Championship, recording 20 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns.
With Texas losing three veteran tight ends—Helm, Davis, and Niblack—due to transfers and eligibility expirations, the team plans to target an experienced tight end from the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason to provide depth for head coach Steve Sarkisian’s offense in preparation for the 2025season.
