The winger has emerged as a target for Ian Evatt’s side.
Bolton Wanderers are keen on a move for Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong this summer.
The Kilmarnock man is yet to agree a new deal with the Scottish Premiership side, who he helped to a fourth-placed finish in the top-flight last season, giving the side a European place in this coming season.
The winger has emerged as a target for Ian Evatt’s side, who missed out on a Championship return once more when they lost in the playoff final to Oxford United at the end of last season.
That result sees a second successive season of missing out via the playoffs, with the season before seeing them lose in the semi-finals, and Ian Evatt will surely be keen to improve his squad in efforts to achieve that goal.
Bolton Wanderers target’s future is uncertain.
The 26-year-old winger scored ten goals in 47 appearances for the Scottish side last season, but his contract expires next summer with Kilmarnock. Despite the club having achieved European football this season, it does not seem to be enough to lure the player into extending his contract with the side, with attempts so far proving to be unsuccessful.
With just a year remaining on his deal, it would be vital that they do not lose a key player without a fee, which could be key in continuing their development as a club.
Bolton Wanderers rebuffed in their efforts.
Despite their failure to retain the services of Armstrong past next summer, the club are continuing to stand resolute in their efforts to do so. According to the same report from Bolton News, the club have rejected two bids from Wanderers so far.
However, they also state that developments they have learned indicate the negotiations do not appear to have reached the bidding stage. Further to that, they state that the numbers discussed between the two parties are not close to the £400,000 reported rejected bids.
Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes has stated that even players coming into the last year of their contracts at the club are just as important. The Killes boss recently stated how the club had improved at securing the futures of their players and just how important it is to hold on to their most important assets.
Changes coming for Bolton Wanderers?
Many have speculated that the potential arrival of Armstrong could signify changes in Ian Evatt’s tactical approach at the club.
The side has primarily deployed wing-backs in their starting eleven, but with two failed promotion attempts, it could be that Evatt is looking to adopt a new approach to his game plan on matchdays. This coming season will not be any easier for Wanderers. With League One having been weak last season, the arrival of Wrexham and Birmingham City in the division from each direction presents a tough challenge for Evatt’s side.
Not only is Armstrong capable of playing as a winger, but he has also featured as a wing-back, which would present the League One club with a more attacking option on whichever side they chose to deploy him. However, they first have to wait for the Scottish club to decide on the Taunton-born winger’s future.
