Bolton Wanderers are close to appointing Steven Schumacher as their new boss, according to Football League World.
Bolton Wanderers had a very poor start to their season under Ian Evatt but have clawed their way back towards the play-offs over the last month or so. BWFC are currently in 7th place and are level on points with Leyton Orient in 6th.
However, after missing out on the promotion through the play-offs last season, more was expected of the Trotters this campaign. As a result, it was no surprise that Ian Evatt was sacked earlier this month.
Under Julian Darby, they have won their last two games, but his interim spell looks to be nearing an end.
According to Football League World, Bolton Wanderers are closing in on an agreement with Steven Schumacher. The 40-year-old has been out of work since September after he was sacked by Stoke City.
Schumacher was sacked harshly by the Potters and the club have not improved since the sacking. Stoke have even already fired Narcis Pelach, Schumacher’s replacement at the Bet365.
Top appointment from Wanderers
Schumacher is a brilliant young coach and he will be tipped for success at Bolton Wanderers. While he is still in the early stages of his managerial career, he has done well in his short time as a boss.
The last time he coached at this League One level, he secured a 100-point season with Plymouth Argyle and won the league with the Pilgrims. He continued that form in the Championship and had Argyle above the drop zone before Stoke City acquired his services.
He once again was doing a solid job at Stoke, something that many high-profile coaches have failed to do in recent years. However, if he can replicate his Plymouth form with BWFC, they will be very happy with their appointment.
What next for BWFC?
It remains to be seen just when and if Schumacher takes the reins at Bolton Wanderers. Up next though is a trip to Reading, which is sure to pose a real challenge.
Reading are a direct rival to the Trotters for those play-off positions and would go level with Wanderers with a win.
