Bolton Wanderers injury latest for Bristol Rovers clash

Wanderers will make a late call on Szabi Schon’s fitness after the Hungarian reported a calf issue in training.

Schon came off the bench for the final stages at Wigan on Tuesday night as the Whites secured a crucial three points over their Lancashire rivals.

The 24-year-old is now a doubt to face Bristol Rovers this weekend as Steven Schumacher’s side aim to get more points on the board.

“Nothing from the game on Tuesday. We just had a bit of an issue with Szabi yesterday in training, so we’ll see how he is this morning,” said Schumacher.

“He had to come in from training with a bit of a sore calf, so we’re just waiting on him this morning to see if he’s available.”

Aaron Morley is back from suspension following his red card at Blackpool and could be involved against the Gas.

Morale has been high on the training pitch after Chris Forino’s dramatic late winner at the Brick Community Stadium took Bolton back into the play-off places.

“The lads were obviously all buzzing coming back into training yesterday and we went over the debrief of Wigan very briefly, I must say, because there wasn’t loads of things to analyse apart from blood, thunder, tackles!

“So it was a brief debrief and then we got straight onto the preparation for Bristol Rovers. But as you can imagine, it’s always good to win a derby game and everyone was happy yesterday.”

Wanderers now have two home games in the space of four days and Schumacher is eager to build on the Wigan result.

“Like anything at this stage of the season, it’s important that you concentrate on the next game and try to win it,” the head coach insisted.

“It was a good result on Tuesday, it was a big three points for us that got us back into the play-off positions. We want to follow that up with another good performance and another good result if we can.

“We are coming up against a team who beat us recently. We know what to expect and know it will be a tough game, so we have to prepare properly for it.”

There are only four points separating sixth-place Bolton and 10th-place Leyton Orient at this stage, and Schumacher wants his squad to relish the challenge as they battle to finish above the dotted line.

“You’ve got to enjoy the challenge,” he said. “Trying to get into the play-offs is a challenge and it’s exciting. If you get it right, the rewards at the end of it are brilliant so that’s the motivation.

“That was what I said from the very first day, that’s why I wanted to come here, to try and get promoted.

“The better that we perform and the more results that we keep grinding out – or playing well and getting results – then the better chance we have of achieving that objective.

“So it is dead exciting, but it’s also very stressful. You’ve just got to concentrate as best as you can and not get too carried away no matter the outcome of each result.”
