DJ Lagway emerged as a potential college football star last season, making seven starts for the Florida Gators. As he recovers from a lingering shoulder ailment, analysts believe he can become one of the best quarterbacks in the sport.
Fox Sports’ RJ Young is included in that group. He took his confidence in Lagway, a former five-star recruit, one step further.
“I think more people … are going to start seeing that DJ Lagway was not any sort of a fluke last year, and that what he contributed to that team was real,” Young said last week on “The Number One College Football Show.” “As a matter of fact, there’s a great argument for, if he does not get hurt against Georgia, they might go win that football game.
“I 100% believe that DJ Lagway is going to enter into the Heisman conversation.”

That is if he hits the field healthy this season. He might not throw the entire spring as he waits to get back to 100%. CBS Sports’ Josh Pate is concerned with the fact that Lagway had to get a second opinion on his injury.
“Once upon a time, they told ‘Stone Cold’ to stop wrestling,” Pate said last week on his podcast. “He went and got a second opinion and had several more very, very impactful years tacked onto the end of his career, although it was still cut short. Second opinions are not normally something you’re seeking unless you get bad news on the first opinion. … We’re left to wonder, ‘Is DJ Lagway okay?’ Um, we don’t know.”
