The last 24 hours have been eventful for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian during the NCAA Transfer Portal winter window, as they’ve secured key players for immediate impact on both sides of the ball.
Texas bolstered its defensive front with two important portal additions from other Power 4 schools on Saturday. Special teams coordinator Jeff Banks, alongside the Longhorns, focused on strengthening the punting game for next season by adding experience and consistency. The Longhorns made their first transfer commitment of this cycle on December 13, landing former Utah Utes All-Big 12 punter Jack Bouwmeester as a senior grad transfer.
Bouwmeester committed to Texas after his visit to Austin on Friday.
In recent days, Texas has hosted several transfer portal visitors, including former Purdue Boilermakers sophomore tight end Max Klare, who visited on December 12. Additionally, Texas has welcomed Bouwmeester, former Arkansas Razorbacks sophomore linebacker Brad Spence, and Purdue senior defensive tackle Cole Brevard for visits over the past 24 to 48 hours.
Several of these visitors have already committed to Texas and signed their paperwork during their weekend visits.
The next few days are expected to be busy for the Longhorns in the transfer portal. Texas is still actively seeking immediate-impact players to address key positions across the roster this winter.
Here’s a look at the two defensive transfer commitments the Longhorns secured on December 14.
