Clark Robertson, who was a target for League One sides Stockport County and Bristol Rovers as well as League Two sides Fleetwood Town and MK Dons has opted to sign for Scottish side Dundee.
Robertson had been plying his trade in Israel for MS Ashdod opting to leave the club at the end of the previous campaign.
The 30-year-old has previously had spells at Portsmouth, Rotherham United, Blackpool and Aberdeen, coming through the youth ranks at Pittodrie before his move to England in 2015.
The defender had attracted interest from a whole host of clubs with Dundee’s official statement acknowledging the competition they faced.
“The 30-year-old Scot had much interest from teams in Scotland and England after leaving Israeli side MS Ashdod but made the decision to join Tony Docherty’s side.” it says on the Dundee FC website.
The Daily Record’s transfer blog had reported on the interest in Robertson on two occasions, firstly stating that Bristol Rovers and Fleetwood Town had submitted offers to the Scotsman and secondly that Stockport County and MK Dons had been eyeing a move for him.
A missed opportunity?
The EFL clubs will have to look elsewhere following his decision to return to Scotland.
He has previously worked with Tony Docherty at Aberdeen, his hometown club so the chance play for a familiar face, just over an hour from his home could have been too good an opportunity to turn down.
It is likely that these four clubs have a long list of potential targets for these positions, it is worth noting as well that according to reports only Bristol Rovers and Fleetwood Town had made offers for the player.
MK Dons have recently surprised many pundits by securing Sam Sherring from Northampton Town despite the League One club’s attempts to keep hold of him.
There is still a long way to go in this window, with players only officially becoming free agents at the end of this month, so there will be plenty of movement and opportunities yet to come.
