Bolton Wanderers chairman Sharon Brittan received the Football Business Trailblazer award at the 2024 SHEIN Women’s Football Awards last week.
The prize, sponsored by Women in Football, was presented to the Whites chief at the ceremony, now in its second year and held in Mayfair at the end of the month of May.
“To win any award voted for by the public is always an honour and particularly one at an important event like this reflecting women’s achievements in football,” she said on winning the prestigious accolade.
“To be described as a role model for women in the football industry is also very rewarding and I hope others can take encouragement from my journey and follow a similar path.
“There were so many highly talented, inspiring people short-listed alongside me and included in other categories and to win the award was a proud moment for me and for Bolton Wanderers.”
Described as role model to women in the football industry, she was recognised for her leadership skills and work she has put into the EFL Club in her time so far at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, topping a shortlist which included Brighton CEO Paul Barber and West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady.
Former Chelsea, Juventus and England star Eni Aluko, who co-hosted the event, added: “The 2024 SHEIN Women’s Football Awards was, once again, a landmark moment for the sport.
“The best of the best were celebrated, including Bolton’s Sharon Brittan who is a real inspirational role model to women in the football industry.
“She has demonstrated a dynamic approach to building up Bolton Wanderers in recent years and is very deserving of this honour.”
The award was awarded based on thousands of public nominations and a judging panel which including women’s footballers Nikita Parris and Missy Bo Kearns, pundits Micah Richards, Jamie Carragher and presenter Hayley McQueen.
