Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit to bring in a striker as Danny Rohl’s tenth summer signing continues.
Sheffield Wednesday are still looking to bring a striker in before the summer transfer window draws to a close, despite the arrivals of both Manchester United youth product Charlie McNeill and former Bournemouth and Swansea City striker Jamal Lowe.
Danny Rohl has expressed his interest in bringing ‘crucial’ former Owls loanee Ike Ugbo back to Hillsborough following his short 2023/24 season spell where he was instrumental in keeping Sheffield Wednesday away from relegation to League One.
However, the Canadian international has been given a hefty £4.5million price-tag by Ligue 1 outfit Troyes.
Former Cardiff City striker Sory Kaba is seen as an alternative target to Ugbo, with the Las Palmas striker previously performing at a high standard in the 2021/22 Championship season where he helped keep the Bluebirds up with eight goals to his name.
Despite there still being uncertainty as to who will be leading the line for Sheffield Wednesday this season, Darren Witcoop has suggested that Ugbo will be likely to rejoin in S6, but there’s a catch.
Sheffield Wednesday will ‘get Ugbo’ but have to ‘pay up’
Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Ugbo remains the top priority for Rohl ahead of the new season, and it is reported that he is the likely candidate to sign for the Owls this summer.
When quizzed about Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer activity and whether they were closing in on any arrivals, Darren Witcoop on X said: “Think they get ugbo…once they pay up.”
After finding out the sizeable price-tag given to Ugbo, Sheffield Wednesday were reportedly unlikely to ‘go to that level and hope to agree a compromise’, however any chance of them bringing in the striker may see them have to cough up a large majority of the amount demanded by Troyes.

Sheffield Wednesday can’t let striker saga linger on
Rohl will clearly be very adamant in not only bringing a striker in, but doing so swiftly in order for him to instate his plans and tactics into whoever arrives.
Due to the fact that Ugbo has previously played under Rohl, he will be more likely to develop and mould his game to what Rohl wants from a striker quickly and with ease, especially considering that the Canadian thrived last season under the German boss.
Whoever Rohl brings in, the longer it takes to do so can be detrimental to his pre-season plans as a striker will be needed to gel in the team, especially if it is Kaba who joins up with the side, as he will need time to settle in.
In terms of other business, Sheffield Wednesday have mastered the rebuild this summer, but that one final piece in the jigsaw must be sorted swiftly, otherwise it can have a fairly significant impact on how the team plays.
