In a recent interview at Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season training camp at St George’s Park, Rohl revealed that his side are now close to announcing yet another summer signing.
Several names continue to be linked with a move to Hillsborough, including last season’s top scorer Ike Ugbo, with Sheffield Wednesday having submitted an opening bid for the Canadian.
But it’s another free agent who’s set to join Sheffield Wednesday next.
Nathaniel Chalobah to Sheffield Wednesday is a ‘done deal’
Released West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah has been closely linked with a move to S6 in the last few days.
The 29-year-old, who has one cap for England, left Championship rivals West Brom at the end of last season, and has represented the likes of Chelsea, Watford, Fulham, and Napoli among others in the past.
Now though, The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal says that Chalobah has agreed a deal to join Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
Chalobah now looks set to become the Owls’ ninth signing of a summer which is rapidly proving to be the club’s most promising in a long time.
One key theme is emerging at Sheffield Wednesday during summer transfer window
Sheffield Wednesday are really starting to turn heads now, and the arrival of Chalobah is another exciting and impressive capture for Rohl’s side.
And what’s becoming clear is that Rohl wants a good blend of young and old, and Championship experienced players to help the team going into next season.
Chalobah has 188 Championship appearances to his name. He also has 55 Premier League appearances under his belt and so he’ll add definite quality to the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday.
His experience, along with that of players like Ben Hamer, and the longer-standing players like Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer and so on, with help some of the younger players like McNeill and Olaf Kobacki to settle in.
Overall, Chalobah looks like another exciting signing in a likewise summer transfer window for Sheffield Wednesday.
