A terrified lion swam for his life after a hippopotamus chased him across the Luangwa River in Zambia.
The tense moment was recorded by Patrick, a guide at the Shenton Safaris Kaingo Camp in Africa, as the video has been doing the rounds of the internet.
As seen in the video, the lion swam at a swift speed across the river as the hippo chased it. Moments later, the hippo was almost behind the lion, but he managed to escape as he jumped onto the shore as soon as he arrived near it.
Once he reached the shore, the lion heaved a sigh of relief, before walking into the wild.
“A few days ago, senior guide Patrick and his guests witnessed an intense moment as a male lion attempted to cross the Luangwa River, only to be chased by a territorial hippo. It was a close call, but the lion managed to escape unharmed,” Shenton Safaris said while describing the wildlife encounter in a post on Instagram.
