Blackburn Rovers defender Hayden Carter could get a move to the Premier League in the future, pundit Sam Parkin believes.
Blackburn Rovers’ centre-back is currently sidelined with a long-term injury.
Carter, 24, is sidelined with a knee injury at the moment and won’t be seen again until next year.
Speaking on the Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel, former Swindon Town, Luton Town and Ipswich Town player Parkin has said:“(He’s) 24, versatile, I think there is going to be a lot of clubs looking at him. Unfortunately, he going to be out long-term now it looks like.
“The age of him, the amount of games he has played and what he has shown so far to be a good competitor and competent in different positions as well. He will I’m sure get a move to a club probably knocking on the door of the Premier League or even in the lower reaches of the Premier League for decent money.”
Blackburn Rovers man hailed
Carter is under contract at Blackburn Rovers until 2027 so they are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon.
His immediate focus will be on his road to recovery from injury and getting back into John Eustace’s starting XI.
He was on the books at Manchester City before switching to his current club in 2014.
Carter has risen up through the youth ranks of the Championship outfit and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.
He was loaned out to Burton Albion and Portsmouth to get some experience under his belt
The Stockport-born man has made 97 appearances for Blackburn Rovers so far and has chipped in with one goal and two assists from the back.
Eustace shared this injury update last month, as per the club website: “I think Hayden’s going to be out for between two and three months. It’s a big low to us, unfortunately.
“When I came in last season, Hayden came into the team and did very well. He’s started this season and has done very well playing in a number of positions. It’s a big blow to us but it will give others an opportunity to play.
“Hayden’s very calm on the ball, he can build from the back, but Danny (Batth)’s come in and can do that as well. It is what it is. We’ve lost Hayden now and it’s time for somebody else to step up and be the man, which is what the squad’s all about.”
What now?
Parkin thinks Carter has the potential to play at the top level which is high praise for the player.
Blackburn Rovers are sat in 9th place in the table and are three points off the play-offs.
They face Portsmouth this weekend as they look to build on their away win at Cardiff City last time out.
