Virginia Tech Football: Former 5-Star LB Jordan Bass Joins the Hokies
The Virginia Tech Hokies continued their strong run in the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday night by securing the commitment of former Pittsburgh linebacker Jordan Bass.
A familiar name for Hokie fans, Bass was ranked as the No. 5 player in Virginia and the 176th overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound linebacker originally committed to Pitt, choosing the Panthers over the Hokies, and spent the past two seasons with their program.
During his high school career at Phoebus High School in Hampton, Bass excelled as a two-way player. He caught 58 passes for 1,535 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior wide receiver while also recording 10 interceptions on defense, returning four for touchdowns. Additionally, Bass was a standout in track and field.
In his time at Pitt, Bass appeared in 10 games as a freshman in 2023, starting once and tallying 11 tackles, including two for loss. In 2024, he played in nine games, finishing with 14 tackles, four tackles for loss, and one sack.
Bass becomes the 15th player to join Virginia Tech through the transfer portal, with three other transfers arriving just this week. He is expected to compete for a starting role on defense next season, with his versatility allowing the Hokies to utilize him as either a traditional linebacker or a pass-rusher.
Notably, Bass is the fifth native Virginian to transfer back home to Virginia Tech since the portal opened last month. Head coach Brent Pry continues to bolster the Hokies’ roster with key additions like Bass.
Welcome home, Jordan!
