The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be ready to part ways with pitcher Jack Flaherty. After Flaherty contributed to their World Series win, the Dodgers quickly replaced him in the rotation by adding Blake Snell. With other pitchers, like Shohei Ohtani and Dustin May, returning from injury, it seems Flaherty’s time with the team is coming to an end.
Tim Kelly from Bleacher Report recently suggested that the Los Angeles Angels might pursue Flaherty. He’s expected to sign a deal worth $80 million, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, a sum the Angels could afford if they continue their aggressive spending.
Although the Dodgers are likely moving on from Flaherty, the Angels, who are based in Los Angeles and where Flaherty attended high school, could be a natural fit for him. Kelly noted that whether the Angels’ owner, Arte Moreno, approves such a deal could be key, as the Angels are coming off nine straight losing seasons. Flaherty could be a pivotal addition to help the team remain relevant.
The Angels made a surprising move at last season’s trade deadline by holding onto key players instead of rebuilding. With those players still in the fold and new additions via free agency, the Angels are now eyeing Flaherty as a potential asset in their push to contend in 2025.
