With the 2024 NFL season underway, the trade deadline is approaching in the future. With that, teams’ true identities are showing.
Some are talented teams falling short of expectations, and others are below-average teams that should be looking at a rebuild.
Two of those teams include the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants, and there is one player in particular that could be traded to help both teams.
For the Chargers side, they need edge rusher help. Not because the defense has been underperforming, in fact, they have actually played great. Joey Bosa is going to be 30, and Khalil Mack is 34, for the Chargers to have their production be sustainable throughout the rest of this season as well as the future, they need a younger rotation at the position. They have Tuli Tuipulotu as one edge rusher already, but they need an edge rushing partner.
This is what opens the door up for a trade with the New York Giants. Currently, the Giants have a record of 1-2, but have numerous holes in their team that need adjustments. The best way to fill those holes is by getting younger on the team through the draft. A key trade player is Azeez Ojulari.
Over four seasons so far, Ojulari has accumulated 92 pressures, 21 sacks, and 54 stops. Ojulari is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which leads to the Giants having to make a decision on him shortly anyway. For the Chargers to ensure they can make a playoff push and slow down opposing offenses, Ojulari with his quick speed would provide an impact. For the Giants they wouldn’t see a dip in their edge production as they have Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns. Ojulari has massive potential to be unlocked still, and the best defense to do so under is the Chargers.
