The transfer portal commitments for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry have been coming in heavy over the last 11 days. The Hokies have added secondary depth along with a running back and offensive lineman. There are still a number of portal needs that Pry has, but on Sunday, they filled one of those needs.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, Tennessee running back Cameron Seldon has signed with Virginia Tech, bringing home the top-ranked prospect out of the Commonwealth in the Class of 2023 according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Browns Store native has two years of eligibility remaining.

Cameron Seldon fills huge Virginia Tech need
Running back is one position of need for the Hokies after Bhayshul Tuten is likely heading to the NFL Draft and Malachi Thomas has entered the transfer portal. They do have young backs Jeremiah Coney, who is expected to get a heavy workload in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Minnesota on Friday night in Charlotte, and P.J. Prioleau who was injured back in October.
This is a big addition for the Hokies as Seldon was the No. 4 athlete in Virginia and 141st overall in the Class of 2023 according to On3 Industry Rankings. This season for Tennessee, he had 23 carries and 118 rushing yards with a touchdown. In two seasons with the Volunteers, he has 224 rushing yards on 48 carries. Don’t be surprised to see the Hokies move him to wide receiver, a position he excelled at in high school. He can also return kicks.
Virginia Tech already had a commitment from Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart nine days ago and now Seldon gives them a deeper and more talented room than they had when the portal opened. Again, Pry continues to do a good job of bringing home Virginia talent and this could end up being a very big one for quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Pop Watson for 2025 and hopefully beyond.
