Michigan will pay visiting Eastern Michigan more than $3 million for the recently inked football series in Ann Arbor, MLive has learned.
The cross-county trip for the Ypsilanti, Mich.-based school will net EMU $1.5 million in 2027 and $1.6 million in 2030, according to the contract signed by both schools in April.
The contract was obtained by The Ann Arbor News/ MLive from Michigan through a public records request.
Michigan is set to host EMU, a school that plays in the Mid-American Conference, on Sept. 18, 2027, and Sept. 7, 2030, at Michigan Stadium. The two programs last played in 2011.
Additionally, any change of dates must be agreed upon by both parties.
EMU will be granted use of one radio booth for coverage of the game and provided 400 complimentary tickets for the game, with the option of purchasing up to 1,600 more at single-game prices. Band members, cheerleaders and the mascot will also be accommodated and not included in those figures.
If you were wondering, the future payouts to EMU are in line with current market rates for other future Michigan opponents. Fresno State and Arkansas State, both non-conference opponents this season, are set to receive $1.85 million and $1.8 million, respectively. Two non-conference opponents in 2025, New Mexico and Central Michigan, are set to receive $1.8 million and $1.5 million respectively.
Recently executed agreements with Western Michigan and UTEP, both set for 2026, will net those schools $1.6 million and $1.9 million.
Michigan and EMU have played a total of 10 times in football, a series that dates back to 1896. Every game has been played in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines have won all 10 games.
