Motorcycle rider seriously injured when tire from Jeep hits bike on Wichita highway

 A motorcycle rider was seriously injured after a tire came off a vehicle and struck his bike as he was traveling on a highway in southeast Wichita, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 8:37 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 235 near Southwest Boulevard.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Jeep Wrangler was northbound on I-235 when its left rear tire came off and crossed the center median, where it struck a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was headed south on the highway.

The motorcycle’s rider, Danny S. Duncan, 59, of Wichita, was transported to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The patrol said Duncan wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Jeep, Dain B. Mitchell, 56, of Wichjita, was reported uninjured. The patrol said Mitchell, who was alone in the vehicle, was wearing his seat belt.
