Two games and three days.
That’s all it took for a pair of slumping Oregon State baseball players to wave goodbye to their weekslong woes.
One game after Dallas Macias used a little faith to fight out of his funk, Wilson Weber had his turn, fueling a Tuesday night of fireworks at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.
Weber amassed three hits, including a home run and a double, and finished with six RBIs as eighth-ranked Oregon State demolished the Washington State Cougars 15-1 in the opener of a two-game midweek series in front of 3,323.
Wilson entered the day in a 3 for 40 rut, managing hits in just three of his previous 10 games. He last recorded a multi-hit night on Feb. 15, when he went 2 for 2 against UNLV. It was the Beavers’ second outing of the season and it was the only time he’s finished with more than one hit in any game in 2025.
Until Tuesday night, that is, when the senior catcher, tabbed by Mitch Canham as a breakout candidate, finally … well … delivered a breakout performance.
He opened his career night with a run-scoring double in the second inning, mashing a ball down the right field line to score Easton Talt from second base and give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead. It was merely a glimpse into the rest of the night. Wilson belted a three-run homer during a monster OSU fourth inning and added a two-run single in the fifth, lifting the Beavers (11-3) to their fifth consecutive victory.
When it was all said and done, Weber equaled his career high in hits and set his career high in RBIs as Oregon State amassed 10 hits and 14 walks, pummeling Cougars (5-11) pitching.
Macias, who broke out of his slump with a key three-run homer on Sunday, added a two-run double in the fourth on Tuesday, producing hits in consecutive games for the second time this season. And shortstop Aiva Arquette finished 2 for 2 with a double, triple, three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Macias and Arquette each recorded two-run doubles in the fourth, when the Beavers sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine runs to break open a 2-0 game.
In the game-changing inning, third baseman Trent Caraway added an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to 14 games. He’s the only OSU player with a hit in every game this season.
Oregon State’s powerful offensive performance made life easy for right-hander Kellan Oakes (who tossed five scoreless innings) and the Beavers’ bullpen (which combined for five strikeouts, one earned run and two hits).
Oakes (1-0) earned his first win of the season, allowing just three hits and a walk, while recording three strikeouts.
Next up: The Beavers and Cougars continue their two-game series Wednesday at 3:35 p.m. at Goss Stadium.
