Ryley Towler is handed his first Pompey appearance since August for the visit of Coventry.
The central defender hasn’t featured since the 3-1 home defeat to Sunderland, on three occasions not even making the 20-man squad.
However, he comes in for Tom McIntyre in the centre of defence, following the former Reading man’s disappointing display against Derby.
Pompey’s second change to the team hammered 4-0 by the Rams is Zak Swanson replacing Terry Devlin at right-back.
Elsewhere, Abdoulaye Kamara and Elias Sorensen have been omitted from the squad, while Regan Poole drops out with his hamstring issues.
Instead Academy pair Michael Ani and Harry Clout are named among the substitutes, having impressed in their FA Youth Cup defeat to Leeds on Monday night.
Ani is a right-back, while Clout, who is now back from injury, was previously involved in Blues squads at the start of the season, although is still awaiting his debut.
Sammy Silvera also returns to the squad, having missed out on Pride Park through injury.
Pompey: Schmid, Swanson, Pack, Towler, Ogilvie, Dozzell, Potts, Ritchie, Lang, Murphy, Bishop.
Subs: Archer, Saydee, McIntyre, Moxon, Silvera, Devlin, Lane, Clout, Ani.
