Lucas Martínez Quarta, known as ‘El Chino’, has finalized his return to River Plate after four years with Fiorentina.
The 27-year-old defender bid farewell to the Italian club during a training session and is expected to arrive in Argentina shortly to rejoin the team under coach Marcelo Gallardo.
Martínez Quarta will sign a contract with River Plate until December 2028. The transfer was completed for a fee of €7 million, as confirmed by journalist César Luis Merlo. Following a medical examination in Argentina, Martínez Quarta will officially become River’s third signing of the transfer window, joining Enzo Pérez and Gonzalo Tapia.
The center-back returns to the club where he started his professional career and will reunite with Germán Pezzella, his frequent partner in the Argentine national team. At Fiorentina, Martínez Quarta experienced mixed fortunes, but his return to River signals a fresh chapter in his career and adds strength to River’s defensive line.
River Plate’s management isn’t stopping there, as they are reportedly pursuing additional reinforcements, including Leo Fernández (Toluca), Giuliano Galoppo (Sao Paulo), and Matías Rojas (currently a free agent).
Martínez Quarta’s return has energized River fans as the club gears up for a highly anticipated season with lofty ambitions in both domestic and international competitions.
