The Owls’ new signings are expected to join-up with their new teammates as backroom staff take a look at their charges following the summer.
The old school days of players returning out of shape from a summer of over-indulging are long, long since over of course, with several of Wednesday’s squad having kept supporters updated with their fitness routines on social media.
Things are expected to kick up another gear next week when fitness and technical work comes in to prepare Wednesday for a kick-off friendly against non-league Alfreton Town on July 6. No further senior friendlies are yet confirmed, though it is expected the Owls will play on a German training camp towards the end of July, before which they’ll take up a short behind-closed-doors residence at St George’s Park. A further friendly at Hillsborough towards the back of the summer is also possible.
Explaining the scale of his pre-season plans way back in April, Owls boss Danny Röhl said: “I don’t like to have too many friendly games, I prefer to have one game in one week, because then you can really train for one topic – otherwise you’re looking just game to game. That’s important for me.”
