The New York Knicks recently announced that their starting center, Mitchell Robinson will not be ready to make his season debut until around December or January. As a result, the team could be looking for some center depth via trade.
In a recent article by Bleacher Report, they list one hot take for every NBA team before the start of the season. For the Knicks, they think they will make a trade for a center before the middle of the season.
“That will be rectified before the deadline via trade-and that move may come at a cost,” Eric Pincus writes. “The Knicks may not have the budget to keep Randle long-term and may get him to a team willing to extend or re-sign him. If so, the team may need two bigs back. Until that’s resolved, the Knicks may dip to No. 5 in the East in a very tight race.”
The team has expressed interest in trading for a few centers, including Walker Kessler, Nick Richards, Isaiah Stewart, and others. But they could take stock of what they have at the moment first.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has said that he could be playing All-Star forward Julius Randle “10-15 minutes” per game at the center position to take some of the urgency of making a trade away. If he finds a way to do that effectively, the Knicks might not need to trade for another big man as desperately as they initially thought.
