The Peach Bowl provided fans with the best game of the College Football Playoff so far on Wednesday afternoon, as Texas was able to outlast Arizona State in a thrilling double overtime matchup.
Arizona State running bak Cam Skattebo emerged as a star in front of a national audience, doing all he could to help his team win. Skattebo ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns, caught eight passes for 99 yards and threw a 42-yard touchdown pass.
It wasn’t enough to defeat Texas in the end, but the star running back showed great sportsmanship by shaking hands with several Longhorn players after the game.
ESPN’s cameras caught a moment between Skattebo and Texas quarterback Arch Manning, as the two shook hands following a hard-fought game.
The handshake from the two players went viral, as many fans commented on the height difference between them.
“2025 is the year of the short king,” one fan said.
“Skattebo like 5’7 no way I’m taking him in the first two rounds,” another fan said.
“If you turn the volume on, you can hear Arch say use that extra JUCO eligibility and come be my RB for a year,” another fan added.
“That mf little as hell 🤣🤣….no wonder they can’t tackle him!,” one fan added.
“Cam Skattebo is 5’11” for reference,” said one fan.
Other fans pointed out that Manning did not play in Wednesday’s game, as Quinn Ewers handled quarterback duties for the Longhorns. Ewers threw for 322 yards and had three touchdown passes in the victory, and he also had a rushing touchdown.
Texas will face Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl next Friday, giving them a home field advantage against the Buckeyes. Dallas is only a three-hour drive from Austin, and the Longhorns will be well supported in their home state.
A trip to the national championship game will be on the line against Ohio State, giving head coach Steve Sarkisian the chance to take Texas further than he did last season. The Longhorns were selected for the College Football Playoff last year, but lost to national runner-up Washington.
This time, they’ll look to make it to the biggest game of the season by defeating one of the year’s most popular picks to win it all on their side of the bracket.
We’ll see how the rest of the season goes for Manning and Texas, but a great year has come to an end for Cam Skattebo, head coach Kenny Dillingham and the rest of the Arizona State Sun Devils.
