As we enter the final weekend of January, recruiting is picking up in the Class of 2026 on the gridiron. This weekend, Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry and his staff will be hosting a number of recruits, including an in-state recruit that the Hokies will make a priority.
Visiting this weekend is Class of 2026 athlete Cameron Hairston-Taylor from Roanoke on Junior Day in Blacksburg. The 6-foot-0, 165-pound Hairston-Taylor picked up an offer from Virginia Tech last June 9 and he also picked up an offer from Appalachian State that same day.
A little over a month later, South Carolina moved into his recruitment by offering him as well.
The Patrick Henry High School star is a talented player. With the Hokies 2025 season-opening opponent also in the mix, this will be an interesting recruitment to follow. Shane Beamer is turning the Gamecocks into a contender in the SEC and after losing a recruiting battle against Virginia Tech with A.J. Brand, you can bet that Beamer will make a huge push to land a Virginia recruit from right under Pry.
I'll be at @HokiesFB tomorrow for Jr. day. I'm ready to kick it with the coaching staff and players. I'm definitely ready to enjoy this whole recruiting process. My heart is full of joy! @CoachPryVT @CoachdjCheetah @CoachPrioleauVT @VTRecruiting26 @VTScoop247 @HokiesFBall pic.twitter.com/QWRHQOLj1e

Virginia Tech has a commitment from wide receiver Carnell Warren in the Class of 2026 from South Carolina, but expect that to get heated as other schools will likely come calling and he’ll likely visit other schools before signing day in 11 months. Expect Beamer to dip his toes in the mix with Warren.
Virginia Tech has already lost a commitment in the Class of 2026 with quarterback Peyton Falzone committing last June, only to de-commit in November and re-open his recruiting, which is getting offers by the day.
Pry has been making recruiting in the Commonwealth a priority since taking over and he made a lot of progress in the recent classes, but Hairston-Taylor will be a priority when all is said and done.
