Rabbitohs Women Join Souths Cares in Anti-Gambling Campaign

Souths Cares has an expansion of its Gambling Education Campaign, with three prominent Rabbitohs women’s players joining the initiative to promote harm minimisation and anti-gambling messaging.

The trio of Jaminey Weatherall, Charlize Barrett, and Aliyah Gordon join established men’s stars Cody Walker, Latrell Mitchell, David Fifita, and Tallis Duncan as official ambassadors for the program.

The campaign is built on the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ industry-leading stance as the first NRL club to partner with Reclaim the Game, a move designed to challenge the over-saturation of gambling advertising in professional Australian sport. Supported by the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling, the initiative will run throughout 2026, leveraging the players’ profiles to reach younger demographics and First Nations communities.

First Nations Leadership and Community Impact
The appointment of the three ambassadors brings a strong focus on Indigenous community welfare and “Mob-led” education:

Jaminey Weatherall (Kamilaroi/Anaiwan/Bundjalung): A rising star in the NSW Women’s Premiership squad, Weatherall emphasised the intrinsic value of the sport.
“I passionately believe that sports such as Rugby League are more enjoyable and entertaining without having a bet on the game.”

Charlize Barrett (Yanyuwa): Based in the Rabbitohs’ premiership team, Barrett highlighted the specific impact of gambling in regional and First Nations areas.
“I’m proud that I can use my voice to support education for our Mob and create change.”

Aliyah Gordon (Gooreng Gooreng/Bundjalung): A product of the Rabbitohs’ heartland and the Lisa Fiaola pathways, Gordon aims to inspire “positive choices” among young people in the South Sydney district.
Strategic and Commercial Context
By aligning with the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling, the club is prioritising long-term community health and brand integrity over short-term betting sponsorships.

Souths Cares, the club’s charitable arm, will utilise these ambassadors to create high-impact digital content and deliver face-to-face education sessions. The integration of female pathway players like Aliyah Gordon ensures the message resonates across all levels of the game, from elite professional ranks to grassroots junior competitions.
