The 12-year veteran informed the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday that he would no longer show up to play for them if his trade request was not granted, and the club retaliated by suspending him without pay. The Dylan Larkin controversy reached a climax at this point.
A trade proposal released on Friday, however, would address the Larkin issue and replace him with an eight-year veteran center from the Minnesota Wild in a deal that would also include a 22-year-old winger who was a Wild first-round pick himself.
Under the trade proposal that would cost the Wild two first-round picks, Danila Yurov, and Yakov Trenin, Larkin would wind up with Minnesota.
Detroit must decide if a package of young players and draft capital is sufficient for its top center, since Larkin has been suspended without pay for declining to play.
The concept originated from a trade proposal published on PuckGM. The move adds $4.228 million to Minnesota’s cap while deducting the same amount from Detroit’s.
Born in Chelyabinsk, Russia, on December 22, 2003, Yurov, 22, was selected 24th overall by Minnesota in 2022. He scored 12 goals and 27 points in 73 games during his debut season, and he has four goals in 15 games this year. He will become a restricted free agent after his entry-level contract expires at the end of the 2027–28 season.
On January 13, 1997, Trenin, who is 29 years old, was born in Chelyabinsk. Nashville selected him 55th overall in 2015. In 2024, he agreed to a four-year deal for $14 million, which pays him $3.5 million per year until 2027–28. According to Pro Hockey Rumors, Minnesota has offered him in order to gain cap flexibility.
