Stan Bowman reunites two brothers with the Oilers in this trade proposal
The Oilers aren’t concealing what they require, and Kirby Dach’s name appeared on Edmonton’s revised trade target list.
Dach is named as a trade priority in a target list that has been circulating since Thursday, along with free agent Claude Giroux and Jake Debrusk.
With a plus-13 goal differential and 93 points this season, Edmonton finished with a 41-30-11 record. That is a team designed to win now, not to rebuild via futures.
Dach has 15 points (8 goals, 7 assists) in 37 games with Montreal this season, with a minus-2 rating. His cap impact is 3,362,500 dollars.
He has also calmed down recently. Only 1 point in his previous 10 games, and a minus-5 streak that brings up serious doubts about the fit and expense.
Is the center of a contender’s blue-line and forward retool really a 25-year-old center coming off a silent second half? No one has responded to that portion yet.
Stan Bowman, the general manager, started working in Edmonton in July 2024, and lists like this tend to follow him wherever he goes.
How Jake Debrusk and Claude Giroux complicate matters
Although his minus-31 rating is difficult to overlook for a squad pursuing playoff hockey, Debrusk scored 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points in 81 games with Vancouver.
Giroux, who is still effective at 38 with 49 points in 82 games and a plus-20 mark in Ottawa, fulfills a new set of demands. Only through term, he is the safer swing.
Putting both names on the same board as Dach resembles a grocery list written before inspecting the contents of the refrigerator more than it does a strategy.
According to the same study, defensivemen Ty Emberson and Spencer Stastney are depth pieces on the trade board, indicating that Edmonton is looking wide rather than narrow.
That’s the real narrative here. A decision, not a wish list, is required for a roster that has a first-round ceiling and a plus-13 difference.
The phrase is Bowman’s. The question that matters is whether he has the appetite to actually pull one of these names off the board before training camp.
