Dylan Larkin Grows Trade List To Eight Teams Days Before The New Season

Dylan Larkin’s trade predicament escalates.

According to reports, former captain Dylan Larkin is now open to considering a great deal more trade destinations, which has made his future with the Detroit Red Wings much more questionable.

After Detroit missed the playoffs for a tenth straight season, Larkin asked for a trade during the offseason. At the time, he apparently listed a few clubs he would think about joining, such as Florida, Minnesota, and Vegas. Subsequently, the list was connected to Dallas.

That list, however, seems to have expanded significantly.

On the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman said that Larkin’s list may now contain about eight teams. Friedman indicated that Dallas and Tampa Bay may be among the extra destinations, even if Washington and Colorado were specifically stated.

The choices available to Larkin have evolved.

The development is noteworthy since Larkin has a full no-movement clause, which gives him a lot of authority over where he may be transferred.

The center, 30, has played his full 11-season NHL career in Detroit and signed a contract with an average yearly value of $8.7 million that runs through the 2030–31 season.

During the offseason, Detroit’s circumstances likewise altered. Shawn Horcoff has stepped in as the interim general manager for the squad, replacing Steve Yzerman. After six seasons wearing the “C,” Larkin also lost the captaincy.

Larkin has already responded to the trade demand.

Larkin conceded that asking for a trade while serving as captain had repercussions when he finally spoke publicly about the matter in September.

He stated that he agreed with Detroit’s choice to relieve him of his captaincy and suggested that he would maintain his professionalism as the company dealt with the problem.

Horcoff has also indicated that the team is discussing the matter with Larkin privately and plans to assess the issue each day.

Is it possible for the Situation to last for the remainder of the season?

One of the most important issues about Detroit is the timing of a probable trade, given that the regular season is getting closer.

The Red Wings now have additional prospective paths to investigate thanks to his extended list, but a bigger list doesn’t necessarily indicate that a transaction is about to happen. Additionally, any squad that is interested would need to create a bundle that Detroit would accept while fitting Larkin’s contract into its own roster and compensation structure.

Larkin is still a Red Wing at the moment, but the fact that he has more possible destinations has only made an already complex offseason story even more complicated.

The question now is whether the broader pool of teams can eventually provide the right environment for a trade, or if Larkin will start the 2026-27 season in Detroit while talks are still taking place in private.
