Red Wings Place Dylan Larkin on Injured Reserve as Andreas Englund Joins Roster
The Detroit Red Wings have made a pair of roster moves involving veteran players as the team continues to finalize its lineup.
Detroit announced that captain Dylan Larkin has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to August 15, while defenseman Andreas Englund has been activated from immigration non-roster status.
Larkin Officially Moves to Injured Reserve
Larkin’s placement on IR is retroactive, meaning the move applies back to August 15.
The veteran forward remains an important part of Detroit’s lineup, and his absence has already created questions about how the Red Wings will handle their forward combinations while he is unavailable.
With Larkin sidelined, Detroit will have to rely on its other top forwards to absorb additional responsibility until its captain is ready to return.
Englund Joins Detroit’s Defensive Group
The Red Wings claimed Englund off waivers from the Calgary Flames on September 26, giving Detroit another physical option on defense.
The 30-year-old Stockholm native stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 200 pounds. He spent most of last season in the American Hockey League with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he recorded 13 points and 65 penalty minutes in 52 games.
Englund also appeared in three NHL games with the Nashville Predators during the 2025-26 season.
His NHL experience extends back to the 2016-17 campaign. Since making his debut, Englund has appeared in 200 regular-season NHL games, recording 20 points and 190 penalty minutes while playing for Ottawa, Colorado, Chicago, Los Angeles and Nashville.
A Veteran With Extensive AHL Experience
Although Englund has spent time with several NHL organizations, much of his professional career has come in the AHL.
He has accumulated 352 AHL games, producing 62 points and 475 penalty minutes.
That experience could give Detroit additional depth as the organization manages its defensive group throughout the season.
Englund originally entered the NHL after the Ottawa Senators selected him 40th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.
International Background
Before establishing himself professionally in North America, Englund developed through the Swedish system with Djurgårdens IF.
He also represented Sweden internationally at several junior tournaments, including the IIHF World Junior Championship.
One of the highlights of his international career came in 2013, when he helped Sweden capture gold at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Now, Englund gets an opportunity to continue his NHL career in Detroit as the Red Wings navigate an early roster situation that includes their captain on injured reserve.
