If these three hot takes come true, Detroit’s 2026–2027 season might go horribly wrong

The Red Wings are going into a season with a lot of questions, but sometimes the most significant improvements come from athletes that no one expects to make a big jump. While established celebrities may be on their way to career-best seasons, Detroit has a number of youthful players who have something to demonstrate.

For the Detroit Red Wings, the 2026–2027 campaign is turning out to be one of the most crucial in recent memory. Many young players are looking to advance, and the offense has a new appearance. Therefore, there are several players that might wow supporters this year.

I believe these three early hot takes are genuinely possible.

Marco Kasper develops into a 60-point scorer.

Given that Kasper concluded last season with just 19 points in 81 games, this may be the boldest of the three predictions.

But I don’t believe his performance last season fully reflects the tale.

Kasper has constantly displayed the ability to win battles, generate chances, and play a powerful two-way game. He has lacked constant offensive output. Kasper could eventually get the playing time and attacking opportunities he needs to thrive as Detroit requires greater offense from its younger players.

Moving into a larger position, possibly with more experienced players, may make a significant impact. A 60-point season isn’t as absurd as it appears if Kasper can gain greater confidence offensively and improve his finishing.

Alex DeBrincat signs a new contract for $10 million and scores more than 35 goals.

Although this is a huge hot take, there is a route to it.

DeBrincat concluded an exceptional season with 41 goals and 85 points in 82 games.

His next contract may become extremely costly if he duplicates that performance with another 35-plus goal, 75-plus point season. Detroit would need to choose whether DeBrincat is one of the players they wish to build their offense around.

That’s a huge commitment at $10 million each season. However, the Red Wings might determine that DeBrincat is worth the cost if he demonstrates that he can consistently perform at a high level. One of Detroit’s most crucial offensive players is him because of his skill at creating offense at five-on-five and scoring on the power play.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygård will score more than 25 goals and more than 45 points.

Perhaps this is the most intriguing prediction.

Brandsegg-Nygård demonstrated glimpses of his potential during his initial NHL opportunities and dominated sections of his time in Grand Rapids. He concluded his 50 AHL matches with 37 points and 16 goals.

Now think what happens if he receives a full-time NHL contract and begins playing alongside more talented linemates.

He possesses a scoring touch that might translate well to the NHL, as well as being physical and competitive. I could see him establishing himself as one of the most breakout players on the squad if Detroit gives him regular minutes and some power-play opportunities.

Even though a 25-goal and 45-point increase would be significant, that is precisely what makes it a bold statement.

The Red Wings may appear to be an altogether different squad by the end of the season if all three of these predictions come true.
