Regarding one of the most contentious issues in international hockey, Nicklas Lidstrom, a legend of the Detroit Red Wings, has expressed a clear public view.
The Hall of Fame defense player believes that Sweden should think about boycotting international ice hockey tournaments if Russia is permitted to return after a significant judgment reversed the nation’s ban.
His remarks are generating a lot of interest since they came from one of the Red Wings’ most revered players.
Nicklas Lidstrom Urges Boycott if Russia Reigns Back
Lidstrom, who is now Detroit’s vice president of hockey operations and counsels Sweden’s national hockey program, reacted with vehemence to the idea of Russia returning to international competition.
Lidstrom stated in comments carried by Swedish Hockey News that “the initial idea is that we should boycott this.”
The decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on October 30 to reverse the International Ice Hockey Federation’s limitations on Russia’s involvement in a number of major international tournaments has prompted his reply.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the nation has been barred from IIHF competitions.
