The Detroit Red Wings ended their Florida road trip on a sour note, falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 despite a second-half surge from the club.
For Detroit, Lucas Raymond and JT Compher scored, and Raymond (6 G, 10 A) extended his point total to tie him for the team lead with Alex DeBrincat (8 G, 8A) with 16 points apiece.
John Gibson, a netminder, received the starting goaltender at Tampa, but he left the game in the first period with a lower-body injury and did not come back. After the game, veteran status remained in question for Thursday night’s starter in net, as head coach Todd McLellan had no update.
Daniil Tarasov came into the Red Wings net for Gibson after starting the previous night against the Florida Panthers to complete the game. Despite having a fantastic start to the year with Detroit, it seems that the 27-year-old Russian goalie and his countrymen won’t be demonstrating their talents on the international stage any time soon.
Nicklas Lidstrom, a Swedish icon for the Red Wings, was one of the first to demand a boycott of any event in which Russians participated, with several other Nordic nations following suit, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned the IIHF’s restrictions on Russian participation in a number of significant international competitions in an Oct. 30 ruling.
The Canadian Prime Minister has since declared that the 2027 World Juniors will not allow Russian participants to enter the nation.

Additional Red Wings
There’s no fresh “news” about Larkin or Simon Edvinsson right now, but it seems that the Red Wings’ management is utilizing the team’s busy road schedule to scout out a potential comeback. Interim Red Wings general manager Shawn Horcoff has not yet received an acceptable return offer from Larkin’s ten-team trade list, which means the former captain is staying at home after quitting on the team before the end of last month.
