After additional trade speculation connected the Oilers skipper to the Philadelphia Flyers, Connor McDavid and Mike Babcock are once again in the spotlight.
The most recent rumor did not come from an NHL executive or a league insider.
However, Todd Fedoruk, a former NHL player and current Flyers broadcaster, told Philadelphia radio that McDavid may consider a transfer if Edmonton has a bad start to the season.
Fedoruk also stated that there are whispers that Philadelphia would be a place McDavid would welcome if the situation ever reached that stage.
Despite the fact that McDavid had only recently started his new two-year agreement with Edmonton, those remarks instantly reignited a well-known controversy surrounding the NHL.
The rumor was also spread without any evidence that McDavid had requested a transfer from the Oilers or that Edmonton was thinking of letting go of its captain.
A fresh Connor McDavid trade rumor is generating buzz around the National Hockey League.
The Edmonton Journal rejected the Philadelphia chatter, contending that there is no basis to think that a gradual beginning would suddenly force McDavid out.
It was also noted in the essay that the comments were based on conjecture rather than confirmed data, questioning why Philadelphia would be considered a desirable location.
This is not the first instance of a rival market seeing McDavid in a different jersey.
Another viewpoint that caused debate in the hockey world was stated in the piece, which also mentioned a recent Montreal Gazette column that indicated the Canadiens wouldn’t even pursue McDavid if he ever became available.
Stories of this nature have persisted regarding McDavid ever since Edmonton chose him first overall in 2015, and they are unlikely to vanish in the near future.
Outside speculation will continue to be stoked by every losing run, coaching change, and playoff setback now that McDavid is unable to negotiate another extension until next summer.
The Oilers remain the same.
The organization’s attention remains on pursuing the Stanley Cup instead of responding to offseason rumors, Babcock starts his first season as Edmonton’s coach, and McDavid remains the team’s pillar.
